Schnyder routs Paszek in Bali final

09/14/2008 - Bali, Indonesia (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Second-seeded Patty Schnyder of Switzerland routed Austrian teenager Tamira Paszek in straight sets Sunday to capture the $225,000 Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic.

Schnyder needed just over an hour to dispose of Paszek, who upset top-seeded Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-0.

It was the 11th career WTA title for Schnyder and her 500th career singles victory on tour. Schnyder, who is 2-1 in her career versus Paszek, is just the 26th women in history to win 500 times and joined Amelie Mauresmo and Venus Williams to reach the milestone this year.

"I'm very proud; it's a great feeling to be the tournament champion," said Schnyder. "I had a great feeling the last three matches, where I was at a very good level and continued everything from New York, despite the fact I'm exhausted from being away from home for the last eight weeks and travelling all over the world."

Meanwhile, the 17-year-old Paszek was toiling in her second career final and attempting to win her first crown since 2006 at Portoroz.

"It was a great experience for me this week,"Paszek said. "Especially after the tough few months I had it's a nice feeling to be in that winning rhythm again. Patty was just too tough today; she played really well. I think last night's match caught up with me today and I was definitely a little bit tired, but overall a good week for me and I hope to continue it the next few weeks in Asia."

Schnyder collected $35,000 for her efforts.
